Our Morning & Afternoon Preschool Programs
Here at Hands On Art & Play Preschool, in SE Portland, we offer young children a place to explore arts, crafts, science, language and music in an environment that is exciting, safe and fun.
Hands On offers preschool and enrichment programs for children ages 3 years old through kindergarten. Our curriculum is based on seasonal themes and promotes a love of learning. Each day the children can play, create art, participate in circle time activities, sing songs, read books, play outside, dig in the dirt, and have fun!
Hands On partners with other local artists and programs to bring music, Spanish, dance, yoga, soccer, science and theater into our classroom.
The children enjoy learning together and forming friendships. Our small teacher-to-student ratio allows all children to receive the attention they deserve. Our preschool program is designed so children can experience preschool without having to attend every day or a minimum number of days each week. We offer morning preschool, 9 AM to 12:30 PM and an afternoon class from 1 to 3:30 PM. Your child can attend 1,2,3,4, or 5 days a week.
A Typical Day At Hands On Art & Play
8:45 a.m. – Drop-off begins for morning preschool
9:00 a.m. – School begins on the playground. We may also play in the back gardens.
10:00 a.m. – Inside the classroom. Project time where children get a chance to do one of our ever-changing projects based on art, math/science, language, or music. Then free choice time in the classroom.
11:00 a.m. – All children meet in a large circle then split into smaller groups for songs, daily jobs, letter & numbers of the week and to do the calendar.
11:30 a.m. – Wash up and lunch time
12:00 p.m. – Outside playtime
12:30 p.m. – Morning classes are out, children either get picked up by family or by the enrichment program you’ve selected.

12:00 p.m. – Afternoon preschoolers that have signed up for enrichment classes arrive
12:45 p.m. – Drop-off for afternoon preschool begins
1:00 p.m. – School begins on the playground. We may also play in the back gardens.
2:00 p.m. – Inside the classroom. Project time where children get a chance to do one of our ever-changing projects based on art, math/science, language, or music. Then free choice time in the classroom.
2:45 p.m. – All children meet in a large circle then split into smaller groups for songs, daily jobs, letter & numbers of the week and to do the calendar.
3:00 p.m. – Wash-up and snack time, then to playground.
3:30 p.m. – Pick-up time for afternoon preschool.
Quick Tuition Facts
- Our preschool tuition is an annual fee divided into 9 equal monthly payments. Payments are due the 1st of each month, and late after the 5th. There is a $25 late fee for payments made after the 5th.
- Drop-in days are billed on top of the regular monthly fees.
- Drop-in days are $40, if someone buys your day you will be credited $35 to your account.
- Registration is a non-refundable $45 fee.
- Our music program is $100 for the school year, for children attending Tuesdays and Wednesdays. If your child attends both days you still only pay $100. Music tuition can be split into 2 payments of $50 and billed in September and January.

Early Care:
Available every day from 8:30am – 9:00am. The cost is $3 per use for children attending 1, 2 or 3 days per week and FREE to children attending 4 or 5 days each week.
After Care:
After care is available most days in the same building as our school from 12:30pm – 1:30pm. We have a variety of programs to choose from.
